Locale is a rare thing in Myanmar’s commercial capital – a modern eatery with a healthy menu offering an oasis of fresh seasonal fruit juices, smoothies, all-day breakfast, salads, wraps and set meals. Adding to the allure is that all the ingredients are sustainably sourced and every dish freshly cooked.

Opened just a few weeks ago, the new Locale café launched its journey in the quiet suburban Star City development in Thanlyin as part of the Pun + Projects, a constellation of eateries which also includes the 50th Street Restaurant, the Rau Ram, Paribawga and the newly opened Port Autonomy. The menu at Locale focuses on Southeast Asia with offerings like Thai pork noodle, Vietnamese favourite bánh mì and Korean bibimbap. However, it still offers western classics like California veggie wrap, Mexican and Spanish chicken, Mexican beef wrap and the Greek power bowl. Dishes start at 6,000 kyat, while drinks start at 3,000 kyat.

Locale is perfect for people looking for healthy options and who want a quiet space to unwind. The other good thing about this place is its rejection of plastic, part of the café’s zero-waste policy.
