Its significant beginning was that of a canned food factory, but this industrial space in Guangzhou now sees new life as Redtory, an artists’ village and art district that serves to inspire its creative and residential community. A major force since 2009, over 200 exhibitions, cultural events and lecturers have been held with the goal of bringing art and modern design into ordinary people’s lives. In an area that spans 170,000 square metres, the Redtory industrial setting has been transformed into seven exhibition areas and over ten creative designations that include studios and art shops. In a big nod to its industrial heritage, Redtory embraces creative industries such as design and applied engineering to complement its contemporary art platform.
